Our Curriculum
Northgate Early Childhood Centre supports children and their families within the first five years to ensure the highest possible education, care and developmental learning outcomes are met.
We believe that all children have the right to an education that lays a positive foundation for the rest of their lives. We are guided by the National Early Years Learning Framework which was created to ensure all Australians become:
-
Successful learners
-
Confident and creative individuals
-
Active and informed citizens
How We Program:
Observe & Document:
Using a range of methods we observe and document the children’s leaning, interest and skills. These observations, photos, wonderings, family stories and learning are documented on Story park, our online child portfolio system. The Early Years Learning Framework outcomes and the Queensland Kindergarten Guidelines are linked to these observations to highlight the learning that is occurring.
Reflect:
We ask ourselves some questions…What is the child learning? What more can I do to encourage this learning? What feedback has been provided from families and colleagues that can be incorporated into my plan?
Plan:
Using these and our intentional teaching techniques, we develop a plan that includes adult and child initiated experiences/ideas. We consider the principles and practices of the Early Years Learning Framework within this.
Implement Plan & Modify:
Using the plan as a guide, we then implement the learning experiences and modify as the childrens interest develop. Along with adding any modifications to the plan we also add all the spontaneous learning that occurs as well.
Critical Reflection:
Its important to reflect on our practice, our environment and the experiences we provide. What worked well? What didn’t? We consider our teaching methods, any changes to the environment and routine and the progression of the children's interest.
